South Florida Fishing Report with Capt. Christopher “Red” Holsinger
November Update
Location: Jupiter, FL
As the first real cold fronts of the season sweep through South Florida, the offshore bite is lighting up — and Capt. Christopher “Red” Holsinger of Ole Red’s Fishing Services has been right in the middle of it aboard his Calcutta 263.
“Man, the fronts have fired everything up,” says Holsinger. “We’ve seen great sailfish action, some quality mahi pushing through, and a solid wave of swords — including fish in that 180- to 300-pound class. It’s shaping up to be an excellent stretch for anglers chasing big bites off Jupiter.”
With water temps dropping and conditions stabilizing, Red expects even better numbers in the coming weeks. “Each new front pushes more quality fish our way — especially sails. You’ll see those flags start stacking up real soon.”
Beyond the bite, Red and his crew have been dialing in their setup aboard the Calcutta 263, and one new addition has quickly become a game-changer: the Garmin Kraken Trolling Motor.
“This thing has completely changed how we fish,” he explains. “From swordfishing to deep dropping and even mutton fishing, it’s been a huge time-saver. You can jump from spot-lock to heading hold instantly — hit the pedal, and boom, you’re locked in. It’s effortless.”
After just 15 trips, Red says the new system has saved countless hours and simplified the way they position on fish. “We’ve only got about 70 hours on the boat and couldn’t be happier. The Kraken’s been flawless.”
As winter approaches, expect the offshore scene in Southeast Florida to stay hot — with sailfish, mahi, and swordfish leading the charge.
Stay tuned for more on-the-water updates from Capt. Holsinger and the crew.
