Captain Matt Luttmann

Calcutta 263 Owner

Location: St Pete, Fl

Specialty: Tarpon, Snapper, and everything in between.

At Calcutta Marine International, we’re proud to work with captains who have built their lives around the water, and Captain Matt Luttmann is a great example. As the owner of a Calcutta 263 based in St. Petersburg, FL, Matt runs a well-rounded program that covers everything from inshore snook and redfish to offshore snapper, grouper, and hogfish.

Matt grew up on Indian Rocks Beach and has fished the waters in and around Tampa Bay his entire life. Starting with skiffs and kayaks at a young age, he spent his days chasing snook, redfish, and trout in the shallows, then shifted to tarpon and large snook after dark. Even early on, it was clear that time on the water wasn’t just a hobby—it was the path he wanted to follow.

After graduating from Eckerd College with a degree in Marine Science, Matt quickly realized that a traditional “real job” wasn’t in the cards. Nearly a decade of running charters and fishing on countless boats followed, giving him a clear picture of what he needed in a platform of his own. That search led him to the Calcutta 263, chosen for its ride, fuel efficiency, and versatile fishability.

Today, Matt’s Calcutta 263 is federally permitted for the Gulf of Mexico, and he spends a majority of his time 20–50 miles offshore targeting snapper, grouper, and hogfish. When the weather doesn’t allow for a long run, he shifts inshore and keeps clients on steady action closer to home. In the spring and summer, tarpon become the main focus, and his program is centered around putting anglers on these migratory fish along the beaches and passes.

With the help of his wife, Matt and his team captured the Suncoast Tarpon Roundup title in 2025, a milestone win in the longest-running tarpon tournament. It’s a reflection of the time they’ve put into their fishery—and the confidence they have in their Calcutta 263 as a daily work platform.

Seasonal Highlights with Captain Matt Luttmann

  • Spring: Permit, snook, cobia, hogfish, and early-season tarpon.

  • Summer: Primetime tarpon fishing, goliath grouper on the wrecks, wahoo trolling, and red snapper season.

  • Fall: Redfish, kingfish, cobia, hogfish, gag grouper, and mangrove snapper.

  • Winter: Hogfish, redfish, sheepshead, and speckled trout.
